Candida auris is a budding yeast belonging to the family of Saccharomycetaceae. The yeast can elicit ear and wound infections as well as bloodstream infections that can be life threatening. C. auris often is resistant to antifungal drugs. Infections due to C. auris frequently occur in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

The transmission path probably is direct or indirect contact with contaminated persons or objects.
