Clostridium perfringens
(spore-forming bacterium)

Clostridium perfringens is an anaerobic, rod-shaped, Gram-positive bacterium. It is able to form spores and belongs to the family of Clostridiaceae. Clostridium perfringens causes gas gangrene (soft tissue infection with gas-producing clostridia).

Transmission either occurs via dust and soil particles which are transmitted into open traumata, or via contaminated food.
