Corynebacterium ulcerans is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium of the Corynebacteriaceae family. The bacterium is closely related to the human pathogen Corynebacterium diphtheriae and may elicit diphtheria-like symptoms by producing the diphtheria toxin.
Transmission mainly occurs via droplets or particles in the air.
