Coxsackievirus is a nonenveloped virus in the form of an icosahedral capsid (spherical shape) belonging to the Enterovirus genus in the Picornaviridae family. Coxsackievirus is the most common cause of the hand-foot-mouth disease and also may trigger diseases of the respiratory tract (summer flu), viral meningitis, and myocarditis.
Main transmission path is direct or indirect contact with contaminated persons or objects.
