Helicobacter pylori is a microaerophilic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium of the Helicobacteraceae family. The symptoms include gastritis or gastric ulcers. In rare cases, Helicobacter pylori causes gastric adenocarcinomas (malignant tumours of a gland).
The main transmission path is direct or indirect contact with contaminated persons or objects.
