Leptospira interrogans is a Gram-negative, helical bacterium of the Leptospiraceae family.

Due to its surface antigens, the human pathogen is divided into more than 20 serogroups with more than 200 serovars.

Leptospira interrogans is the causative agent of leptospirosis, which occurs worldwide. Leptospirosis is broadly classed as anicteric (milder form) or icteric (more severe).

The main transmission path is direct or indirect contact with contaminated persons or objects.
