Marburg virus is a filamentous, bacillus or sometimes U-shaped, enveloped virus of the Filoviridae family.
Marburg virus infections trigger haemorrhagic fever and damage the organs.
Transmission seems to occur primarily via direct contact with blood and body fluids of infected persons.
