Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an aerobic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium of the Xanthomonadaceae family. It may trigger urinary tract infection, respiratory tract infection or bloodstream infection. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is increasingly resistant to multiple antibiotics and becomes more frequently involved in nosocomial infections.
Transmission mainly occurs via contaminated water and food respectively.
